Captain Collings studied emerging Equestrian Interest, after the war and made decisions about the course to be run at Porlock. These would include courses for working pupils, held at The Tanyard, the pupils looked after 2 and sometimes 3 horses at the school. They paid £6.00 per week towards their accommodation, for a period of 15 months.

One of the many other courses to be run would be The Horsemasters course which ran for approximately 13 weeks and was held at Porlockford. Known locally as ‘The Ford’. The fees were 9 guineas per week (residential) and 5 guineas per week (non-residential) which covered all living expenses. This course covered equitation, stable management, horsemastership, minor ailments and general knowledge. The Horsemasters looked after one horse each.

At the end an examination was taken and a Preliminary Instructor’s certificate was issued by The British Horse Society.
